CALL TO WORSHIP

A psalm of thanksgiving.
Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

Praise the Lord!
For it is good to sing praises to our God;
For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.

The Lord builds up Jerusalem;
He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.
He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds.
He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.
Great is our Lord, and mighty in power;
His understanding is infinite.
The Lord lifts up the humble;
He casts the wicked down to the ground.

Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving;
Sing praises on the harp to our God,

Psalm 147 1-7

Great Is The Lord

Smith, Michael/Smith, Deborah D.

Great is the Lord
He is holy and just
By His power we trust
In His love

Great is the Lord
He is faithful and true
By His mercy He proves
He is love

Great is the Lord
And worthy of glory
Great is the Lord
And worthy of praise
Great is the Lord
Now lift up your voice
Now lift up your voice
Great is the Lord
Great is the Lord

Great is the Lord,
He is holy and just
By His power we trust
In His love

Great is the Lord

By His mercy He proves
He is love

Great is the Lord
And worthy of glory
Great is the Lord
And worthy of praise
Great is the Lord
Now lift up your voice
Now lift up your voice
Great is the Lord
Great is the Lord

Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!
Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!

Psalm 150

Hear Our Praises

Morgan, Reuben

May our homes be filled with dancing
May our streets be filled with joy
May injustice bow to Jesus
As the people turn to pray

From the mountains to the valleys
Hear our praises rise to You
From the heavens to the nations
Hear our singing fill the air

May Your light shine in the darkness
As we walk before the cross
May Your glory fill the whole earth
As the water o’er seas

From the mountains to the valleys
Hear our praises rise to You
From the heavens to the nations
Hear our singing fill the air

From the mountains to the valleys
Hear our praises rise to You
From the heavens to the nations
Hear our singing fill the air

Hallelujah, hallelujah
Hallelujah, hallelujah (repeat)

From the mountains to the valleys
Hear our praises rise to You
From the heavens to the nations
Hear our singing fill the air

From the mountains to the valleys
Hear our praises rise to You
From the heavens to the nations
Hear our singing fill the air

OPENING PRAYER

O Lord, Almighty Father,

We are in awe of your awesome power. You are great and merciful. You hear the cries of our hearts and you come to our rescue. Your love endures forever. We sing these songs and lift our hearts in praise to honor you. We sing and praise you so that the whole earth will know of your greatness. You are God. You love us like a father loves his children. You hold us when we are scared. You carry us when we are weak. Father, look upon us now as we express our deepest love for you. We have come to this place to gather with our brothers and sisters. To unite in spirit and in truth. Abba, Father. Bless us beyond all measure and place a song in our heart that sings of your glory and your love. We will take this song into the world and teach this song, the song of salvation to your children.

We humbly ask this and all things through Jesus, Our Lord, and Savior.

THE GIVING OF THE LORD’S OFFERING

It’s now time for the Lord’s offering. As we continually thank Him for the overflow of blessings that He showers upon us, we remain faithful in giving the tithe and offering. Perhaps the most powerful text in the Old Testament concerning giving can be found in Malachi 3:8-10, where God accused the Israelites of robbing Him. God’s chosen people questioned this claim and asked, “How do we rob You?” God’s response was, “By not making the payments of the tenth and the contributions.” God then went on to make a powerful challenge: “Test Me in this way. See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure.”

That is a powerful promise from our gracious, giving God!

And as we approach the throne, we bow and pray.

Lord, as we bring our offerings to you, may our tithe be acceptable in your sight. Blessing and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving, honor, and power and strength, be unto you O God forever and ever. As always we pray, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.

MORNING PRAYER

Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is Yours, O Lord, and this is Your kingdom. We adore You as the one who is over all things.

1 Chronicles 29:11

You created this world and everything in it. You created us in your image and put breath in our lungs. Let everything that has breath praise you!

Psalm 150:6

We adore You because You are great, and greatly to be praised!

Psalm 145:3

All creation reveals Your wonderful work, Your power and beauty in all things. “For everything comes from Him and exists by His power and is intended for His glory. All glory to Him forever!”

Romans 11:36

Help us Lord to slow down from the busyness of life that we might notice You more. The morning sunrise reminds us of Your mercies that begin fresh every morning (Lamentations 3:22). As we go about our day, we will admire how great You are by pausing to enjoy what You created.

Sometimes we feel like the disciples when they were in the boat, tossed about by the storm. But then we remember how the story ends, with Your son Jesus speaking peace to the storm. We adore You because You are the only One powerful enough to quiet the storms in our lives.

It’s so easy to get overwhelmed when we are struck by difficult circumstances. But we don’t have to fear anything as a child of God. All power belongs to You! Thank you, Lord, for your mighty power at work in our lives right now. Thank you also for Your Holy Spirit who provides power within us to do the things You’ve called us to do. May we never forget where our source of power comes from.

Omnipotent Father, because of Your mercy and grace You sent Your son Jesus as a sacrifice for our sins. As a Father, You demonstrated a love, unlike anything this world has to offer. Because of that love, we will get to spend eternity with You. Lord, thank You for this ultimate gift. Without You, we would have no hope. Help us to love You with all our heart, soul, and mind! In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.

SCRIPTURE

This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and from our brother Timothy. I am writing to God’s church in Corinth and to all of his holy people throughout Greece.

May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us.

We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety.

2 Cor 1:1-11

Will you pray with me…

Father, please help me to release all thoughts and worries. Help me to focus and trust in you and be with me as I deliver this message. May it be a blessing to the ears that hear and encouragement to the hearts that receive.

THE MESSAGE

Miracles

Jim Brandenburg

Did you know that laughter is good for your health? It’s true!

  • Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
  • Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
  • Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
  • Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.
  • Laughter burns calories. Okay, so it’s no replacement for going to the gym, but one study found that laughing for 10 to 15 minutes a day can burn approximately 40 calories—which could be enough to lose three or four pounds over the course of a year.
  • Laughter lightens anger’s heavy load. Nothing diffuses anger and conflict faster than a shared laugh. Looking at the funny side can put problems into perspective and enable you to move on from confrontations without holding onto bitterness or resentment.
  • Laughter may even help you to live longer. A study in Norway found that people with a strong sense of humor outlived those who don’t laugh as much. The difference was particularly notable for those battling cancer. 1

So here are some stories to help you begin your laughter therapy.

There was a devout cowboy who lost his favorite Bible while he was mending fences out on the range. Three weeks later, a toad walked up to him carrying the Bible in its mouth. The cowboy couldn’t believe his eyes. He took the precious book out of the toad’s mouth, raised his eyes heavenward and exclaimed, “It’s a miracle!”
“Not really,” said the toad. “Your name is written inside the cover.”

A pastor goes hiking and as he comes around a corner on the trail, he comes across a giant grizzly bear. The bear lets out a growl and is about to charge when the pastor falls on his knees and begins to pray: “Lord, I pray that this bear would be a Christian.” In an amazing miracle, the bear is converted instantly and stops where it is.
It looks upwards and begins to pray and give thanks:
“Thank you Father, for the meal I am about to eat…” 2

A ‘divine’ healer in his ‘miracle’ ministry called out to the congregation, “Anyone with ‘special needs’ who wants to be prayed for, please come forward to the front.”
With that, John got in line and when it was his turn the Pastor asked, ” John, what do you want me to pray for you?”

John replied, “Pastor, I need you to pray for help with my hearing.”

The Pastor put one finger of one hand on John’s ear, placed his other hand on top of John’s head, and then prayed and prayed and the whole congregation joined in with much enthusiasm. After a few minutes, the Pastor removed his hands, stood back, and asked: “John, how is your hearing now?”

John answered, “I don’t know. My hearing is actually next Thursday in the “Magistrate Court.” 3

Speaking of miracles. Did you know that in the bible, there are recorded somewhere around 40 miracles in the new testament? Isn’t that amazing? Starting with the wedding at Cana where Jesus changed water into wine, right up to His very last day here on earth.

So an Irish priest is driving down to New York and gets stopped for speeding in Connecticut.
The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest’s breath and then sees an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car. He says, “Sir, have you been drinking?”
“Just water,” says the priest.
The trooper says, “Then why do I smell wine?”
The priest looks at the bottle and says,
“Good Lord! He’s done it again!” 4

Has anyone here ever experienced a miracle? Would you like to share?

Today marks the two-year anniversary of the miracle that I witnessed.
Two years ago, I was in Florida with Lindsay and Julianna visiting my mother-in-law.
It was a Thursday and we were planning to fly home Friday morning.
Well, God had different plans.
I would like to read the letter that I composed and sent out to the congregation shortly after that incident.

Dear Faithful Followers of Our Lord Jesus, the Christ,

Recently, I called upon the Warriors of Prayer to help in the medical emergency that I had been placed in. As I layed in the hospital bed, worn out from being in A-Fib, the uncertainty, and stress of no medical coverage, all of you came to mind. I asked Lindsay to contact Randy and my other prayer partners to intercede and pray to our Father to release me from the attack on my physical being.

I was admitted Thursday afternoon and given I.V. drips of medication to help regulate, and possibly alter the A-Fib back to Sinus rhythm. For almost 21 hours, I remained in A-Fib.

Determined to see God’s glory through this, I asked the Father to use me in whatever way He needed; to shine His glory among the people surrounding me at the hospital and to encourage all of you.
Prayer is one of the most important, if not THE most important thing we as followers can do (in my opinion). WE need to talk with our Lord everyday, and all day long and ask for His wisdom and direction in everything we do. WE need to ask Him the questions on our hearts and then carefully listen for His response.

God spoke to me in a gentle, loving voice and told me two things:

Don’t worry… and Trust Me…

As Friday morning rolled around, having only an hour or two of uninterrupted sleep, I awoke with the sun shining through the window of my room. I felt worn out still but excited for the day. The doctors and nurses began to visit me and plan for the procedure that would shock my heart back into Sinus rhythm. Not totally excited about the procedure, I remained confident that God would rise up through this experience and shine among His people. Just before 10 am, they took me to the room where the procedure would take place. As the nurses prepared my chest area for monitoring and the inversion with pads and sticky things, I spoke with the nurses telling them about all of you. I told them that I had about 200 Prayer Warriors praying for me at that moment and told them of my excited anticipation. They seemed to be quite amazed with the amount of you and also the optimism. As the anesthesiologist entered the room, he introduced himself and began to question me about my past medical history and any issues or procedures I may have had in the past. I answered a few of his questions and then he paused. He looked at me and in a very confident voice asked the attending nurse if I was back in Sinus rhythm. I looked at him in sort of a disbelief, like he may have been joking with the nurse. But when I looked at him again, he seemed quite convinced and confident. She replied, “I don’t have him hooked up to the monitor yet..” So she quickly started to attach the leads to my chest and turned on the machine. She said “hold on a minute..”… And there was silence… Everyone in the room was staring at the monitor with anticipation. I couldn’t see what she was doing but I heard the machine running off something like a printer. She said “he’s in Sinus”. She ripped the paper off and scurried away. She returned with the Cardiologist that was about to do the procedure. The Cardiologist held up the paper to show me and said you are in perfect sinus rhythm. I said “Thanks be to God”. I wanted to jump to my feet and do a little dance. I was able to witness, firsthand, a miracle from God. I believe He sent that man to my bedside and used him to pronounce my freedom from the affliction. Instilled with your prayers and God’s will, He can use any of us, even an anesthesiologist, to proclaim His works. Through the power of your prayer and Faith. Faith and Trust in our Lord. Our wonderful, merciful savior. The one we long to embrace. He offers hope when our hearts are weary and tired. (And even in A-Fib) When we become discouraged and low; lean on him.

I learned many things through this experience. I think my pride and confidence in “myself” was stripped away and replaced with the assurance of my Lord and His everlasting love and power. I needed to grow and He helped me to do just that. This is what I ask of all of you. Come to the Father and lay down your worries, concerns, pride… Kneel before Him and let Him wash you of impurities. The lamb who takes away, will reconcile you. “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
Blessed be the name of the Lord, Jesus.

The giant step in the walk of faith is the one we take when we decide God no longer is a part of our lives. He is our life. ~Beth Moore, Praying God’s Word

Thank you all for your prayers and trust in the Lord.

As I think back having just read this, I am so blessed to have had an opportunity for the Lord to use me. He trusted in me as well. It takes courage sometimes to speak out about Jesus. People all over the world are being punished and even martyred for doing so. I am so thankful that we live in a country that gives us the freedom to worship Jesus without conviction or even death.

That day, I let everyone know just how much He loves me and how He released me from that horrible condition.

In our reading this morning from 2 Corinthians, Paul describes a similar situation that he and Timothy were involved with. “Our trouble which came to us in Asia” in verse 8. They did not know what the outcome was going to be.

When Paul thought he was dying, he found a deeper trust in God.

In reality, if you think about it, each day we are one step closer to death’s door. No matter what the affliction. Isn’t it important to navigate our hearts and minds towards a deeper trust in God? Think of those out there who never heard of Jesus or were never invited to meet him. Isn’t that saddening? Jesus died for all. PERIOD!

Each One Reach One.

If there are fifty of us and we each ask one person to come to church, that’s one hundred people hearing the word of God being read, listening to the message, and worshiping. That is significant. Just think about the great commission Jesus prescribes for all of us in Matthew 28:19. Jesus tells the disciples “go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…” We are his disciples too. We have a responsibility to our Lord in fulfilling His mission. It is a privilege and an honor to be called sons and daughters of our great God. It is also an honor to tell people about Jesus.

Just a few days ago my mother passed away. She had suffered a stroke back in May of 2021 which left her unable to walk. Through the months of laying in bed, her condition worsened. She began to get sores and endure excruciating pain because of them. Over the last few months, when I would go and visit her, I would talk about Jesus with her. I didn’t even realize how much she did not understand. We talked about His sacrifice and how that took away the penalty of eternal death, which made us right in God’s eyes. This was the same woman who dragged me to church every Sunday.

When my mother passed away, my brother and sister were holding each of her hands praying over her. She said “God help me! She took her last breath and was whisked away into Jesus’ arms. A miracle!

All these years and she never truly understood until we discussed it.

Do Not. I repeat, DO NOT assume people know Jesus.
The people around you that you know and are friends with.
Talk to them. Our life here is short.
Imagine this comparison.

Our life here is about the size of a dime. Our life with Jesus is bigger than a planet.
Our life here is so brief but our life with Jesus is eternal.
Each One.. Reach One!

Thank you, Lord, for giving me the opportunity to witness and proclaim your Good News. Thank you for the time you gave me to spend with my mother and please take care of her. I trust in you. We trust in you. Your love and your word never fail.

COMMUNION SONG

I Come To The Cross

Somma, Bob/Batstone, Bill

I come to the cross seeking mercy and grace,
I come to the cross where You died in my place.
Out of my weakness and into Your strength,
Humbly, I come to the cross.

I come to the cross seeking mercy and grace,
I come to the cross where You died in my place.
Out of my weakness and into Your strength,
Jesus, I come to the cross.

Your arms are open, You call me by name,
You welcome the child that was lost.
You paid the price for my guilt and my shame,

Jesus, I come,
Jesus I come,
Jesus, I come to the cross

I come to the cross seeking mercy and grace,
I come to the cross where You died in my place.
Out of my weakness and into Your strength,
Jesus, I come to the cross.

Jesus, I come,
Jesus I come,
Jesus, I come to the cross

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

COMMUNION AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf. And he did not enter heaven to offer himself again and again, like the high priest here on earth who enters the Most Holy Place year after year with the blood of an animal. If that had been necessary, Christ would have had to die again and again, ever since the world began. But now, once for all time, he has appeared at the end of the age to remove sin by his own death as a sacrifice.

Hebrews 9:24-26 -NLT

COMMUNION PRAYER

Lord Jesus, we bow before You in humility and ask You to examine our hearts today. Show us anything that is not pleasing to You. Reveal any secret pride, any unconfessed sin, any rebellion or un-forgiveness that may be hindering our relationship with You. We know that we are Your beloved children, having received You into our hearts and lives and having accepted Your death as penalty for our sinfulness. The price You paid covered us for all time, and our desire is to live for You.

RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT

As we take the bread representing Your life that was broken for us, we remember and celebrate Your faithfulness to us and to all who will receive You. We can’t begin to fathom the agonizing suffering of Your crucifixion. Yet You took that pain for us. You died for us! Thank You, Jesus. Thank You for Your extravagant love and unmerited favor. Thank You that Your death gave us life—abundant life now, and eternal life forever. As You instructed Your disciples, we, too, receive this bread in remembrance of You.

(Receive the bread).

And in the same way, as we take this cup representing Your blood poured out from a splintered cross, we realize that You were the supreme sacrifice for all our sins: past, present, and future. Because of Your blood shed for us, we can be free from the power and penalty of sin. Thank You for Your victory over death. You took the death that we deserved. You took our punishment. Your pain was indeed our gain. And today we remember and celebrate the precious gift of life You gave us through the blood that You spilled. As You instructed Your disciples, we, too, receive this cup in remembrance of You.

(Receive the cup)

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the Power and the glory forever, Amen.

CLOSING SONG

Good Good Father

Brown, Tony/Barrett, Pat

Oh, I’ve heard a thousand stories of what they think You’re like
But I’ve heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night
And You tell me that You’re pleased and that I’m never alone

You’re a good, good Father
It’s who You are, it’s who You are, it’s who You are
And I’m loved by You
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am

Oh, and I’ve seen many searching for answers far and wide
But I know we’re all searching for answers only You provide
‘Cause You know just what we need before we say a word

You’re a good, good Father
It’s who You are, it’s who You are, it’s who You are
And I’m loved by You
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am

Because You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways to us
You are perfect in all of Your ways
Oh, You’re perfect in all of Your ways
You are perfect in all of Your ways to us

Oh, it’s love so undeniable
I, I can hardly speak
Peace so unexplainable
I, I can hardly think

As You call me deeper still
As You call me deeper still
As You call me deeper still into love, love, love

You’re a good, good Father
It’s who You are, it’s who You are, it’s who You are
And I’m loved by You
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am

And You’re a good, good Father
It’s who You are, it’s who You are, it’s who You are
And I’m loved by You
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am

You’re a good, good Father
It’s who You are, it’s who You are, it’s who You are
And I’m loved by You
It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
(You’re a good, good Father)
You are perfect in all of Your ways (it’s who You are, it’s who You are, it’s who You are)
(And I’m loved by You)
You are perfect in all of Your ways (it’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am)

BENEDICTION

Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.

God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
